About A Map
for MAPs
Dr. James Peak’s A Map for MAPs is the unique, groundbreaking guide to coping as a minor attracted person (MAP). Its sole agenda is to enhance the safety and welfare of children by supporting MAPs in their pursuit of a satisfying, virtuous life.
Readable yet grounded in current research, A Map for MAPs offers trustworthy guidance on topics such as: finding an understanding therapist, interacting with minors in the community, avoiding the dangers of sexual compulsion, and how to overcome the crippling shame and guilt so common in this population.
Anchored in the belief that every child deserves a life free from abuse and that non-offending MAPs deserve to be treated with dignity and understanding, A MAP for MAPs will serve as an essential resource for patients, family members, therapists, probation officers, and interested members of the general public.
About James
Peak
In general I am a pretty dull guy; wife, adult kid, dog and cat. Worked as a psychiatrist for 25 years. Enjoys hiking, pop music, and Japanese role-playing games.
The thing that makes me a bit different is that I am also a minor attracted individual. This is not my favorite personal trait, not really the first thing I want you to know about me, but it seems that my experiences, both good and bad, may render me of assistance to others.
I have written two books on this subject: a memoir called Stupid Brain and more recently a self-help book entitled A Map for MAPs. The major purpose of this website is to publicize and propagate these two works so that they are freely available to others who find themselves in my situation.
When I was a young man there was nowhere to go for help with being a minor attracted individual (MAP), and I had to make do. The results were at best, mixed. I wish better for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are your goals in writing these books?
I have two. Keeping children safe while assisting minor attracted persons in pursuing lives of dignity and serenity.
Why are you allowing free downloads?
I did not write these books to make money. I have great remorse for having downloaded CSEM fourteen years ago, and I am trying to make virtual amends with these books. I want to get them into the hands of anyone who might benefit from them. I do not want anyone to fear being “associated” with them, knowing that internet retailers and credit card companies store your information forever. You may download a .pdf or .epub digital file for free. You do have to pay for the paperbacks however.
Who should read A Map for MAPs?
I am hoping it will appeal to young adults who either know there are MAPs or are questioning the possibility. But I also hope it will be of use to other family members, therapists, judges, and probation officers who wish to learn more about our population. While most of the self-help book is addressed directly to the minor attracted person, there are chapters at the end which designed especially for family members and therapists.
What are you not trying to do?
Thanks for asking!
I am not trying to “recruit” people to the MAP team. I consider minor attraction to be a serious and unwanted mental illness, not an exotic lifestyle choice to be embraced.
